Immediate Past Chairman's Charity 2017

I lost my father and my mother-in-law to cancer within 3 weeks of each other, nearly 10 years ago.

In what was my final year as Chairman, thank you for helping me support Brighter Futures.

Brighter Futures is the charity for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which includes Great Western Hospital in Swindon and 69 community sites in and around Wiltshire, including Savernake Hospital in Marlborough, Chippenham Hospital and Malmesbury Health Centre.

Eight people every day are being diagnosed with cancer; most of us either know someone affected or have been personally affected.

The charity wants to raise £2.9 million in order to equip Swindon with facilities to be housed in a new radiotherapy building at Great Western Hospital.

Each year hundreds of patients travel on average 2,500 miles each to receive essential radiotherapy treatment.

There were a series of fundraising activities during 2017 – thank you for all the support you gave me.

My first challenge was the Smarties challenge – collect a full tube, eat the sweets with my compliments and then fill the tubes with your spare change, and give them back!

There were many other fund raising activities from home made jams and pickles to duck races to running a marathon !!

At the 31st December 2017, the amount raised for Brighter Futures was:

£267.50 was paid directly through the "Virgin Giving" web site, no receipt is issued

£2217.26 was paid via the Centre Charity Account. A PDF of the first page of the receipt can be downloaded here: Brighter Futures Receipt
